Let me state it another way: why should I care about anyone working harder than another? People don't value "hard work" (if they didn't do it themselves, of course :) People value results. So, if your goal is to play basketball like Michael Jordan, I'd ask you for your plan to achieve it and take care in specifying the intermediate results: what when how etc. If you do achieve these results AND each of them is one step above your limit at that time, then I'll conclude that you're working hard.
