I agree. I believe many of them think they are better (or as
important) than they really are. Some, however, may be as good as
they think. For these people, they just might be narrow minded
thinking they way of their success is the only way.

I do not think these people are in every project, but they do crop up
from time-to-time. I also see where you might be going with this.
If these indviduals are not on your team, then the weight of their
objections should be proportionate with their actual participation in
the project.

So you suggest moving/pushing/herding them off to a project or area
more suited to their needs? I find this an acceptable compromise.
I was going to ask how do you deal with these people if you cannot
move them since this was the experience I had when I was coaching
before. Then I just realized how "disturbed" that situation was and
I doubt that if I was in such a position again that I would let it
get so bad (i.e. once bitten, twice shy) and this time around, I
would be able to move someone off the project.
