Interesting question. 

You are correct in assuming I work for a small
company. And really, it's the CIO's that we are
targeting. Would this be applicable to the CTO? Should
a Fortune 500 CIO keep hands on? Yes. Is it possible
at the code level? No. 

But isn't it simply a matter of changing your
"dashboard". 

Assume you are the CIO of GE. What would your XP
dashboard look like to let you know if your software
projects are on track? Are they the conventional
project management metrics?
