Standups are often a great first indicator of dysfunction to someone (like me) coming in from the outside--standups like the ones Tim describes are usually the result of non-collaborative work. Yes, when others are speaking, I imagine many are thinking "what will I say when it's my turn" more than listening. With WIP = 1 and pairing, they are engaging and useful meetings--as Tim says, to plan the day's attack, or better, be clear on what we will deliver today. With WIP = 1 and mobbing, they're not really much of a meeting as much as a lead-in to today's work. Good morning, nice to see you, let's go!
