I guess the main gotcha is individuals have very different perceptions as
to what is "engaging, useful, valuable".

Alas, extroverts that aim for ScrumMaster or team lead positions are at the
"socializing is great" end of the spectrum and introverts that just, for
pity sake, just want to get back to work are at the "this is all pain" end
of the spectrum.

It would be a really good idea to aim for a minimal standup and then
encourage those to stay or leave according to the value they are getting.

Alas, in the middle are those who are blind to social signals and continue
beyond anybodies tolerance.... but everybody is too polite to shut them
down firmly.
