How?

In all seriousness. The last sentence I quoted defines my working
environment; I am a _developer_, not a coach, and I have never had the
luxury of having any coach, good, bad, or indifferent, available on any
team or "team" that I've worked on.

The received wisdom (from when I've asked this question before, on this
list) seems to be that  I must not advocate for any practices, because
as an experienced and senior developer, any advocacy on my part is far
too likely to be felt as coercion by other team members.

Since I am not, in fact, the ideal coach, who can change the team's work
habits with a gesture and perhaps a suitably insightful head tilt, am I
reduced to simply keeping my mouth shut and hoping for the best? What
happened to "Change your work environment, or change your work
environment."?
