I can talk about my current view on finalization, which is that it
should really be based entirely on when the run-time system can prove
that a certain function can no longer be invoked on the object, and
probably not be defined in terms of reachability at all.  In some sense,
that's an evolution of where Java, for example, has been going.  On the
other hand, I do think it is a significantly different way of viewing
things.
