Though others are certainly welcome to address this question, I'd guess that
I'm the logical one to respond.  I apologize for taking so long to reply. =
 My
TKP work is on the back burner right now, as I have a ton of other projects
with deadlines staring me in the face.  Something about earning a living...

My usual definition of "keyhole" is a gratuitous maximal restriction on
something you can see or express, but I'm beginning to toy with the idea of
removing the word "gratuitous" and instead distinguish between gratuitious
and non-gratuitous keyholes.  That would mean that a keyhole is a maximal
restriction on something you can see or express, and gratuitious keyholes=
 are
the ones without a decent technical justification for being.  My TKP work
focuses on gratuitous keyholes.  By "maximal" restrictions, I mean
something that gets to a certain size and then can't be made bigger, e.g.,
windows, input buffers, passwords, etc.  There are also "reverse keyholes"
that impose minimal restrictions (something can't be made smaller), but my=
 TKP
work doesn't address those.

Regarding your question, then, my feeling is that the fundamental
characteristic all keyholes share is the imposition of some kind of=
 restricion
or constraint on the maximum size of something.
