I'm a Christian, so I'll spare y'all my thoughts on the root cause of 
conflict, but I will say I think it's a mistake to make emotions the 
target here. I believe they're just the messenger as to what's going on 
with one's beliefs and how they are interfacing with the rest of the 
world. Emotions can be a fantastic diagnostic tool to figuring out 
what's going on. Again, I'll recommend Dale Emery's writings - he's got 
some good stuff about using conflict and resistance as a 'debugging' 
tool, so to speak, for management issues.

And FWIW I don't think emotions control us. Emotions are just the 
dashboard lights, not the steering wheel.
