I only skimmed the article, so may have missed key elements. Given
that, I think he too narrowly defined craftsmanship ("With a craft,
the product has intrinsic beauty in its own right.").
It makes me feel good when someone notices the care I've taken to do a
good job on a bit of code, but I am often my own audience for that,
knowing that the people who get value from the code will never look at
it. I still strive to apply the skills I have.
How about this? Advanced skills + desire to do the best job possible =
craftsmanship.
