Precisely, one Pastorius is enough. I admire his role in Weather
Report, but am not impressed by his work as a band leader.
Still I consider the model of an artisan workshop, say a luthier to
stay of (off) topic. more suitable to software than the model of a
robotized line production. It is also a model for learning: watching
over then shoulder of the master and trying to steal what you can
understand (until you really understand and can move to your own shop.
But beautiful software is not an end in itself. Think of the Mac you
most probably are looking at. Did you choose it because it has
exceptional engineering? Not only that, it had also to be manufactured
with quality, skinned with beauty, shipped in time and thought through
in the interface.
