This seems completely reasonable, but at least as far as GUI 
applications are concerned, it doesn't appear to be the consensus. Most 
KDE applications are written in C++. For Gnome it's even plain C. Mac OS 
X applications are written in Objective-C. Despite the existence of 
other, higher-level language bindings for each of these environments.
