Hard to believe it has been that long, Ken.

It's a good question, 1-arm vs. 2-arm.

Every application has different needs, and no single configuration is going
to be optimal for all of them.  The things that push you one way over the
other are going to depend on your traffic volume, security requirements and
networking expertise.  And, the capabilities of your load balancer will
influence your decision a lot.  For example, if you want to take advantage
of compression, caching, encryption and other advanced features like
IDS/IPS, you'll likely be forced to use one mode or the other, but that's
not technically load balancing.
