I suppose Promiscuous Pair Programming is the practice I prefer to use in order to gain the benefits you describe. I have had good and bad experiences with each, but I find pairing provides more gain precisely because it is continuous -- it is easier to heed the advice given, precisely because it is timely. -- J.
