If you define an asset as something that puts money in your pocket, then agility is doing only those things the customer is prepared to pay for now. Manufacturing businesses have for a long time recognised that work-in-progress (i.e. inventory) is undesirable, despite how accountants like to label things. Design-in-progress, i.e. unbilled-for work, is even more likely to lose its value so let's do only those things for which we can send out an invoice. Until it's sold it's an expense.
