Hello all,

I apologize in advance if this is off-topic, but I’m in search of a domain modeler who can assist with a large-scale J2EE product / project in the financial services industry. I’m a big fan of agile development / modeling and thought this might be the best place to try and find a modeler who can fit in well with the team I’m assembling.

As background, I’m a consultant working as the architect for a client who develops financial software for loans, leasing and collections systems. My client has been in business for 30+ years developing these COBOL systems running on the mainframe and PC. We’re in the initial phase of completely re-writing these systems from the ground-up using J2EE. This is shaping up to be a multi-year project with deliverables to very large banks and captive finance companies.

The good news is that over these 30 years my client has developed a lot of domain expertise. The subject matter experts (SME’s) I’m working with know their business (and their current systems) like the back of their hands. The problem is they know little if anything about object oriented technology, including how to model their domain using OO. Right now I’m wearing both the domain modeling and architect hats, but I’m quickly becoming the bottleneck and need to bring in some expertise to back-fill me that can devote 100% of their energy to domain modeling. I’m assembling a team of heavy-hitters by putting very experienced people in key strategic areas of the system. Central to all of this is the domain model, which will be leveraged in the rules (rules engine), stored in the database and displayed in the user interface.

The ideal candidate would have experience modeling complex financial transactional systems. They would collaborate directly with the SME’s in developing the domain model using best practices from agile modeling. They would be part of an agile development team, have very strong communication skills and could implement their models in code in a quick, iterative manner (i.e. no ivory-tower architects). They would work with the other aforementioned team leads and me directly in shaping the design of the system. They would also be very well-read :-) [I enjoy publications by folks like Martin Fowler, Robert Martin, Scott Ambler and more recently Luke Hohmann]

I could write more, but I’ll stop here, hopefully this gives you enough of a sense of the type of person I’m seeking. The candidate would sub-contract through my company and be expected to do some traveling (I’m based in Virginia and some of the SME’s are in Texas). My thoughts on travel are that there would be a good bit up front to get started and after that if you could do your work from home, I’m fine with that (and so is my client). I can be flexible for the right candidate.

If you’re interested, please contact me ([email protected]) and provide a resume and a brief note. Thanks in advance.
