I think the rot started with the PC - then clients (and managers, users, and so on) began to assume that they knew about IT, because they had a PC on their desk (or their child was doing all sorts of clever stuff at home), and how hard could it be? </cynicism>

	I am happy to see the end of your cynicism, but the lack of a <cynicism> tag makes me wonder how long ago your cynicism began.  :-)

	One way to try to get past the trust issue is to guarantee that from iteration 2 on we will deliver greater value than we cost, and that they can cancel after any iteration and keep what we have delivered so far.  And then deliver.  So far, I have not found a client that would prefer to go back to the old way of having their project 90% done for 90% of the duration of the project.
