Last night the 14th Annual Jolt Awards were presented at Software Development West in Santa Clara (www.sdexpo.com). I am very happy to make several announcements: 1. Agile Database Techniques (www.ambysoft.com/agileDatabaseTechniques.html) won a productivity award (effectively runner up) in the technical books category. I'm happy to say that it lost out to Dave Astels' great book Test Driven Development (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0131016490/ambysoftinc) -- frankly, if I had been a judge I would have voted for it. 2. Lean Software Development by Mary and Tom Poppendieck (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321150783/ambysoftinc) also won a productivity award in the management book category. This is a well deserved award IMHO and I highly suggest this book. 3. The Agile Modeling site (www.agilemodeling.com) was nominated but lost in the web site category, losing out to IBM developerWorks. Call it like it is, it's hard to win against multi-billion dollar corporations sometimes -- maybe next year. ;-) 4. Several OSS tools won awards, including Hibernate, Eclipse, and Preyvaler. Congrats to those teams for really great tools. I was pretty happy about the results of this year's awards. I think it reflects the current trends towards agile software development methods and the use of OSS tools, trends which are only going to grow as time goes on. - Scott ==================================================== Scott W.
