I think your above message and Post #2 crossed in the email stream.

Post #2 begins to answer how Freedom's approach to requirements
strives to do exactly the things you mention above.  As outlined
in Post #1, it will take about half dozen posts to cover the key
aspects of the approach.

Backward chaining appears to be predicated on being given requirements
stated in natural language prose, as it appears from the above to be an=20
approach to semantic analysis of natural language.  At least that's
how I'm reading it.  The structural organization you describe sort of=20
reminds me of sentence diagramming, although it clearly goes beyond that.

As long as requirements continue to be written in prose, I would think=20
that approaches such as backward chaining may have much merit as a way=20
of reducing ambiguity and increasing understanding of the requirements.
However, as you may have read by now, Freedom changes the ball field
by pulling the carpet out from under prose (as strongly advocated by=20
Parnas).

If I am in error about backward chaining and it is not specific to
prose requirements, then please elaborate more on the approach as
I obviously missed something important.
