P.S. This is a fascinating subject, but it gets way out of scope way quick. Linguistics is the science of describing why/how symbols that represent sounds can be used to tell machines (or people) how to do things. My Mom is a PhD linguist, and I am a programmer. I first got interested in computers (About the age of nine) when she brought one home to work on her dissertation. I first started programming the following Christmas when she bought me a Commodore to bribe me off of her Mac ;-) However, I know very little about what she does and she knows only slightly more about what I do. This list is mostly about doing refactoring. The subject of why it works and the history behind that is somewhat beyond our purview. However, if it is something you intend to pursue I wish you all the best.
