Of course, if I designed a "massive merge" refactoring in such a way that my extract class algorithms could detect where the merge points were, I could claim 100% success when I dissembled the massive class into the original ones. (Reverse, reverse engineering.) That's why I'm hoping to get some external human opinions on my suggestions for splitting large classes in the real world. If your extract class algorithms can't work with the "reverse reverse engineering" case, it probably won't work in the more general case.
