package refactorings

Has any work been done on describing various refactorings of packages?

At the simplest level, I'm thinking things like:

"Extract dynamic/static library from executable"

At a more complex level of packaging, it might be things like:

"Extract separate product installation package from an existing
installation package and create an installation dependency between
them."
