Call for Papers: RefTest Workshop, May 2012

RefTest (REFactoring & TESTing) Workshop

In conjunction with XP2012: 13th International Conference on Agile Software=
 Development

Call for Papers

Refactoring and its testing implications/crossover have emerged over recent=
 years to become important inter-related research topics with high industri=
al resonance. Many issues and problems still remain unexplored in these two=
 highly-related fields incorporating topics such as the theoretical underpi=
nnings of refactoring, TDD, empirical studies, refactoring of test artefact=
s, code smell analysis and patterns (both design and micro) to name just a =
few. Refactoring also has a growing importance in the monitoring of system'=
s evolution and the propensity of systems to minimise maintenance effort an=
d fault propensity; the over-riding question, still largely unanswered, is =
whether we can quantify the benefits of refactoring.

The purpose and goal of the REFTEST Workshop is to bring together industria=
l practitioners and academics in a setting where current issues in refactor=
ing and test crossover can be presented, relationships with testing discuss=
ed, results from current research in refactoring/testing disseminated and f=
uture directions distilled.
Topics of interest for the RefTest Malmo workshop are as follows:

=95 Industrial System Experiences with Refactoring/TDD
=95 Pair Programming
=95 Refactoring Theory
=95 Empirical Studies of Refactoring (OSS)
=95 Refactoring Test artefacts
=95 Code Smell Evaluation and Eradication
=95 Design Patterns and Refactoring
=95 Micro-patterns and Refactoring
=95 Refactoring and System Evolution
=95 Software Metrics for evaluating the Refactoring process

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit full papers (max 8 page=
s) or position/discussion papers (max 4 pages) in Springer format, guidelin=
es: http://www.springer.com/series/7911  All submissions will be peer-revie=
wed. At least one of the authors of accepted papers should attend the Works=
hop to present the paper. We welcome academic and industrial contributions.

We are currently in discussions with the International Journal of Agile and=
 Extreme Software Development to produce a special issue from selected pape=
rs from the Workshop.
