SIP is "just another Six Sigma measure"?

Thinking about Six Sigma tonight as I strolled through Borders leafing
through various Six Sigma books, I wondered if SIP is already one of Six
Sigma's many measures.
I briefly read a bulleted list that Six Sigma is about:
* Improving quality
* Minimize cycle time
* Minimize inventory
This goes along with the whole "Lean Thinking" thing, which makes me
wonder if SIP hasn't already been well-explored by the Six Sigma folks.
Anyone here more knowledgeable about the subject matter want to put
their two cents in?
