Well, there are two parts. There is FIT, the Framework for Integrated 
Tests. It runs on tables which define input and expected output, and can 
be hooked to a variety of languages, including Python, .NET, Java, Ruby, 
Smalltalk, etc. The challenge with FIT is that you have to create the 
tables yourself, either in an HTML editor or in Excel or some other 
program, then run FIT on that which outputs HTML files, which you then 
have to view in a browser.

FITnesse takes Ward's Wiki concept and runs everything inside the Wiki. 
So, users can define the tests, run and see the output all inside the Wiki.

Currently, the most popular version of FITnesse uses the Java FIT 
server, since there isn't one in .NET (even though you can hook it up to 
.NET classes to run the tests). We're working on the port of the FIT 
server itself so that it runs in .NET.

I'm afraid I'm still not doing it justice, but the "tests" of FIT are 
generally targetted as integration/specification/acceptance tests that 
your customers can define and run. In fact, at XP Day DC Digital Focus 
had a customer panel who talked about how they used FIT Tests for 
regulation purposes instead of having to create lengthy documents.

There's a good book called _Fit for Developing Software_ by Rick 
Mugridge and Ward Cunningham.
