It is an annoyance, but if you simpy add the new with a comment that
it's replacing the old, then delete the old, people can go to the
attic to get the earlier history. One does tend to want to have a
relatively stable file before renaming it.

Cool! I remember building a bridge like that myself once. It's a great
way to learn about working with others, since things tend to fall over
if you don't.
