SCons has been accepted for the Google Summer of Code 2009

SCons has been accepted to take part in this year's Google Summer of  
Code (GSoC).  If you haven't heard of it before, it's a program that  
pays students to work on open source projects (instead of flipping  
burgers) during the summer.  We thank Google for offering this program  
and for including us in it.

The formal application period for students starts on March 23rd, but  
if you are a student and wish to apply, or if you know of a student  
who might like to have a job this summer, _NOW_ is the time to start  
talking to us about it.  Our ideas page is in the wiki[1].

If you are not a student but have some time in the summer, there are  
many ways you can contribute to or take part in our GSoC projects:

  * We need PROJECTS that a student could reasonably expect to do in  
about ten weeks of effort.

  * We need MENTORS with a knowledge of Python and SCons who will be  
willing to give the students a helping hand.

  * We need STUDENTS with Python experience (and preferably some SCons  
experience) doing projects.

  * We need the COMMUNITY to help with ideas and feedback.

In general, we need EVERYONE to pitch in and help out where you can.   
No matter if it's providing ideas for projects or recruiting students,  
you can make a difference.
