SWIG problem appears fixed. Now I am just getting:

with both default and python3-port branches with Python 2.

As noted in replying to William, I think the gdc fails are an artifact
of the gdc and ldc installation.

I think William has sent in some fixes for the Fortran issues that are
yet to be merged. 

I have zero ideas about the VariantDir issue.
