Python 3 compatability... RFH (request for help)

All,

I'm down to about 50 failing tests on py3.5 on linux, and more than that on
win32.
If you've got some time to chip in, help is most welcome.
(As a point of reference down from 1000+ tests failing a couple months ago,
and around 400 failing about a month ago).

If you're up for chipping in, please hop on IRC and ask for a test to fix,
or respond here.  Trying to avoid duplicating efforts.
