Maybe Graham has a version of PyGTK for GTK+ 2? The GTK+ backend in
version 0.1 is written to work with GTK+ 1.2. I've just commited a
new GTK+ 2 backend by Eugene Pervago to CVS if you feel like living
on the edge.

If this is not the problem, I'm not sure what is. I've never had this
happen myself.

Peace,
  Kalle
