Since my MUA prototype needs PyXML which requires Admin privileges to install, I used a simple testcase in the interactive interpreter. But instead of entering a correctly escaped unicode string, I entered the umlauts directly and as a normal string. I've now verified that Umlauts work correctly in the Label, ListBox, TextArea and TextField widgets under Python 2.3/tkgui/Windows. You can add the tkgui (verified) and gtkgui (no Windows version) changes to CVS. Qt/Windows still needs to be checked by someone else.
