I think that starting with simple objectives is a good idea. i'm also 
agreed with you to reduce the backends' list, but i think that a native 
cocoa backend should be a good improvement. In fact some people here 
play with mac and most important mac support from the others toolkit is 
a bit immature, so anygui could be a great alternative (at least for 
simple projects).
One  more suggestion, probably is a good idea to work on documentation, 
this can help new developer and increase anygui users.

(i promise that i spend some times by learning better english :-)
