At least I would be happy if someone would really try to
contact me before hijacking the project. If he really has
left the project, we should do every possible attempt to 
confirm that fact before taking over.

I'm sure someone knows someone in Vancouver and could go
to bang his door at Davie Street to confirm that. Go to
local business registry and find out the latest company
contact information. Whatever it takes. What you're doing
requires it.
