Tyler,
The gist looks good.  I'd also like to include some cosmetic cleanup of 
the code based on what pyflakes is telling me about all my old unused 
imports that don't need to be there.  I'll push a changeset your way 
sometime in the next few weeks.

I think we should also make an effort to include at least some 
documentation updates in each release, however minor they may be.  I
commit to documenting the usage pattern of subclassing Template to provide 
new default compiler settings (what I mentioned on Saturday).  Any 
volunteers for other small bits of documentation, such as some short 
examples for the website's examples page?
