Re: segmentation violations

Hi Fred,
Great to see that you've found the root cause. When I
looked at your stack trace, these lines stood out:

because in my experience a segv in such a lowlevel routine
indicates that the cpu is being mis-detected.

Before I could suggest checking your hardware, you figured
it out.
