It took me quite some time to do a full review of the code but it is now
merged into the official python2 branch. I tested the code with python
2.4, 2.5 and 2.6 (thank you Debian for parallel Pythons), both tests and
exampls and everything works.

We still have some issues to fix and some patches to apply but I can
anticipate we'll have a release early next week.
