notifies

There may be a bug in "notifies()" or I may be wrong - why
do I have to be sending events inorder to receive notifies?

def do():
        x = db.conn.notifies()
	if x != None: print x

import time
start = time.time()
counter = 1
while 1:
        passed = time.time() - start
        if passed > counter:
                print counter
                counter = counter + 1
                if passed > 10: break

                #db.conn.query("listen event_1")
                db.conn.query("notify ignorable")
        do()
