But then it would not automatically update older pysqlite 2.x versions any
more.

I think it's better to keep it as it is and users who need to install both
pysqlite 1.x and pysqlite 2.x will need to do some manual tweaks like
installing pysqlite 1.x, saving the directory in
pythonXY/site-packages/sqlite, then installing pysqlite 2.x, then restoring
the directory.
