Just to clarify: The situation with the Oracle Instant Client has gotten a lot better recently and is now updated frequently enough to base serious applications on. Charlie was referring to the early days when Oracle recommended to use the ODBC driver that comes with the Oracle server instead of the one that shipped with Oracle Instant Client. The number of reported problems with the Oracle ODBC driver has dropped to zero lately.
