It's been a long time since the 2.0 alpha release, and there seems to
be no current ongoing development work, and there are a number of
issues and PR's piling up on the github repo.

How can we get this unstuck? Is there any way for the community to get
involved here? Would having more people review PRs and look at issues
be useful?
