Just an update on this,

I have tested the pdf conversion from nbconverted slides (nbconvert 5.2.1
and Chromium 58.0.3029.110) and it seems to work as expected.

If you find issues, please post them on
https://github.com/jupyter/nbconvert/issues/596 so we can figure out how to
solve it.
