is BitTorrent the most popular Open Source project ever?

I started looking at SF stats and downloads, size of mailing lists,  
etc. to try and get a rough estimate of what the most popular Python  
projects are. After looking at BitTorrent I'm pretty sure I found the  
most popular application of Python and maybe the most popular Open  
Source application of all time.

Granted, of the 1.3-1.5 million (yes I said MILLION) downloads a month,  
only a small percentage have probably ever heard of Python let alone  
programmed in Python, but what an opportunity for PR and maybe even  
funding. I've emailed Bram Cohen to see if he is having much luck  
supporting himself through PayPal donations (I doubt he is), but since  
he doesn't know me I might never get a reply; I emailed him last year  
about a success story and never got a reply then either. Does anyone  
know him? He lives in Berkeley. I suspect we could do some marketing/PR  
that would benefit Bram and Python. I bet Trevor has already started  
salivating over the possibilities ;-) Surely there are some story  
possibilities for journalists, both tech and popular press that we  
might help foster.

Also note that 3 of the top 20 most active Python projects on SF are  
BitTorrent clients: ABC, burst!, and BTManager. Azureus, a client  
written in Java is in the SF top 10. burst! is actually more popular as  
far as downloads go with over 450K downloads for the most recent  
release.
