I started work on this quite a while ago, but ReleaseBuffers in my tests 
always wound up producing glibc segfaults, and I just never got back to 
it. If someone feels like hacking on it, the code is in 
OpenGL/arrays/_buffers.py with the FormatHandler in buffers.py
