*This is essentially an unconference with Lightning Talks - ie aiming for
the best bits of a python conference.*

The project I'm building (compilepython.com) will work best with a broad
group of people, so that=E2=80=99s the reason for the lightning camp - to m=

*The project you're building?*


Yes. At the event I'm kicking off a project (https://compilepython.com/) to
create a "tripadvisor-like" website for python compiler users and writers -
except the "destinations" are the tools, and the experiences are there to
help others get the best from great tools like ShedSkin, Nuitka, Mojo,
Codon and Mypyc, as as well as JIT compilers and so on. Having used some of
these and built one specialised python compiler
<https://github.com/bbcmicrobit/prototype/tree/master/compiler> and then
another <https://sparkslabs.com/pyxie/> in the past, I know these can be
challenging to make and challenging to use.


My motivation: In the past year I've become interested in green compute as
part of my current day job in assisting scientists across Europe improve
their software engineering. It struck me that if we had a common resource
for python compilation, that it would help all of us. Hence this project.


I figured the best way of making this actually relevant and useful to
people was to create a useful space for everyone, and then see where I can
help the projects that turn up, capture what works, and build from there.


*Format*


With that in mind, I'll have space for 3+ tracks, and just 1 track reserved
for compilepython.com things.

The lobby will open at 9:30 GMT, followed by an opening, then lightning
talks and the grid will open.

If people join from the US and want to continue, there will be a handover
session at 16:30GMT (if they don't that's when we close :-) )


As with all unconferences and lightning talks, this is made fun and
productive by those who attend and this will be no different. :-)


There's already a critical mass of people signed up, but the more the
merrier, and some lightning talks already lined up. If you have something
to share, please come :-)


*Who's Behind this*


Some of you know me (Michael Sparks <https://sparkslabs.com/>), I suspect
many don't - but I've been around the community a while (sometimes more,
sometimes less), built various

interesting <https://www.kamaelia.org/> challenging things
<https://github.com/bbcmicrobit/prototype> etc. I've been having my sanity
around this checked by Steve Holden :-D who's been very encouraging and
later *events* in the year will be financially supported by the Software
Sustainability Institute <https://www.software.ac.uk/>. (I'm hoping to
build momentum for an hybrid/in-person event in the autumn, as well as 2
other online events in early summer, and winter)
