I'd say that something is _very_ weird on your machine. Either some hardware
problem that breaks content or some libraries that are broken and sometimes
mix up bytes. I never encountered such problems with metakit databases on my
installations. I do know that there are problems with Metakit sometimes, due
to problems with the g++ and libstdc++ that are used. Definitely unusual
what happened to you.
