I use 2.4.9.3 on Gentoo (and Python 2.3.3!), no problems noticed yet 
with Metakit.

Maybe the metakit version, and the Python Metakit interface, are out of 
sync? Gentoo always rebuilds both so I wouldn't have that problem... If 
you re-compile the Python extension the problem might go away.
