Hi everyone,

This is to notify you all about an important change about the Pyro mailing list.
It's following up on my recent announcement about abandoning the Sourceforge.net
mailing list. I am starting this process right now.

TL;DR:     [email protected]  WILL BE TERMINATED
           [email protected]  IS THE NEW MAILING LIST ADDRESS


Sort-Of-FAQ:

* What is going to happen?
The "[email protected]" mailing list will be shut down.
It will be replaced by "[email protected]".  So this means the "pyro mailing list" is
not going to go away, it will just live on under a new address.

* When is this happening?
- From the moment this mail arrives in your mailbox, the new "[email protected]"
address is up and running. You can subscribe and become a member of the new list right
now.

* What do I have to do?
Visit http://www.freelists.org/list/pyro and sign up.

* What will happen to the old mailing list?
It will disappear. I will leave the address active for a short period.
After that, I'll enable moderator mode for a little while to see if any messages still
arrive that need attention. Eventually I'll terminate the old mailing list address,
and abandon the Pyro project on Sourceforge altogether. Expect this to happen at the
end of this month.

* Why are you doing this?
Let's say I have grown increasingly unhappy about Sourceforge over the years. My
problems with Sourceforge consist of several things:
- - their terms of use
- - their quality of service (several mailing list outages without any support staff
reacting on tickets over a period of weeks)
- - their recent activities of hijacking project accounts and/or wrapping installers
with their own installer which adds a free dose of unrelated addware/malware/etc.

* What happens to the old messages (archive)?
The mailman archive on Sourceforge will probably be gone once I terminate the pyro
project there; https://sourceforge.net/p/pyro/mailman/pyro-core/
I'm not 100% sure about this, maybe the archives remain, but I suspect they won't.
That's too bad, but hey, is anyone still interested in what we discussed on the list
in march 2002? :-)

* What happens to the Gmane.org mirror?
I don't really know, I hope to be able to configure it to point to the new freelists
list and not remove the existing message archive in the process, but have not really
looked into this yet. I will report about the outcome.
For those that don't know, Gmane.org provides several mirrors (such as a newsgroup) to
the mailing list, over here: http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.python.pyro

* Why Freelists.org? There's this awesome other free list provider XYZ you should use
instead!
Well, I've considered Freelists.org and Librelist.com, and freelists seemed the most
featureful. If I chose wrong, please report here why XYZ is a better choice. It is
still not too late to reconsider :-)
