A good alternative to the instructions on the web page is to use 
MacPorts - http://www.macports.org/

Follow their instructions to get the base library installed and then 
fire up the terminal prompt and type;

$ sudo port install python24 py-wxpython

That way you can track upstream fixes and releases by typing;

$ sudo port upgrade outdated
