With the following versions the layout looks the same as XP, i.e. all 
components are visible and the text area fills the frame:

OSX 10.4.11 (PowerPC)
Python 2.3.5 (as shipped with Tiger)
wxPython 2.5.3.1
PythonCard 0.8.2

So it looks more like something specific to newer versions of the 
OS/wxPython than a platform difference.
