Hi, I just proposed an enhancement to
SciPy in the linked issue with a couple questions asking for input and whether we’d accept the proposal.

I’ve also linked to a gist where I have some working code and unit tests along with some time it timings.

I’d be grateful for any comments and feedback on the proposed enhancement directly in the issue.
